Formal writing good copy.

In the year 2012 mobile phones are a massive part of our society. They are used by a huge variety of outlets.. such as businesses or families. However.. some people would argue that mobile phones aren’t what they’re cracked up to be- in fact they apparently control peoples lives. This formal writing assignment is to negate against said statement.. and convince you to believe that mobile phones do not control people’s lives. The factors I believe play a large part in my arguments are as follows: Mobile phones are only addicting to people who are weak against addiction Mobile phones are only a means of communication.. nothing else Mobile phones are a piece of plastic. The statement of “Mobile phones control people’s lives” leads me to believe that it is a metaphor.. meaning that mobile phones are addicting. Mobile phones are not very addictive whatsoever. I’d happily say that over 90% of my age group is not addicted to mobile phones. The small portion of people I do know that are “Addicted” to mobile phones check them occasionally for no reason. I would hardly count that as an addiction though.. seeing as the definition of addiction is as follows: “Mentally and physically dependent on a particular substance.. unable to stop taking it without incurring adverse effects.” This means that I know absolutely no-one who is addicted to mobile phones. Take that.. precarious statement! This statement that I am arguing against also leads me to believe that mobile phones are more than just a means of communication. They aren’t. Plain and simple. Mobile phones are simply something you talk to people with. It is ridiculous to assume that they can control ones life. It is absolutely ridiculous to believe that a means of communication can alter.. or decide for you the life choices you make. I don’t know whoever created this statement.. but they are most likely very sheltered.. and wear tin foil helmets to protect their brains from the government/alien’s rays of doom. This statement that I have argued against finally leads me to believe that the creator of this topic thinks that mobile phones have greater power than just to send messages.. and telecommunication. Mobile phones are mainly maid out of plastic.. thus they are not sentient.. and are incapable of having the (As the definition of “Control” instates) “The power to influence or direct people’s behavior or the course of events.” This statement makes mobile phones sound like heroin. Demonizing mobile phones to this stage will get no-one far. It’s best just to keep up with the times.. and accept the technology as it comes. Throughout my argument I have stated that mobile phones aren’t at all addicting.. that mobile phones are just a means of communication.. nothing more.. nothing less.. and finally that mobile phones are just a piece of plastic. In the end I hope that I have persuaded you to believe that mobile phones do not control people’s lives. Thanks- Tom Burgess 495 words.

Winning Edge. (PE ASSIGNMENT)

I do not have a comma so ".." will be my comma for this.

This is my guide on how to get the winning edge on happiness.. and why it is important.

First I would like to describe what my winning edge is. My winning edge is to be overall happy in life. I think this is a huge advantage.. because when you have a negative attitude life can be a lot harder.

The benefit of having this winning edge is almost obvious. When you have this winning edge.. you can go through your day to day life being a happy person. Not only is this just a great thing to be in life.. but it can also prevent mental disorders such as depression.. insomnia.. and eating disorders. Being happy isn't just a state of emotion. It is a lifestyle almost. When you are happy in life.. people notice. Though not much may be said about how you are a happy person.. people will notice. Being a happy person is largely viewed in society as a very good thing. To face the facts.. depression is an ever expanding disorder.. and has a huge impact on New Zealand. This makes being a happy person even more largely viewed as being a great thing. Besides being seen as a better person.. another stand out thing about being a happy person is the large chance that an employer will hire a happy person over a sad one. This can make getting a job a LOT easier.

A few things that can provide this winning edge include doing the following things
Getting exercise. Not only does this make you feel better about yourself.. this will also subconsciously make you less prone to mental disorders. This will help you gain the winning edge.
Eating healthily. Eating healthily will build on to what getting exercise does. This will just make you feel good about yourself in general.. because in our modern day.. not many eat healthily.. and this will make you unique in a good way.
Listening to music you enjoy. Listening to music has been shown to improve your mood from day one. Music has had a large impact on a countless amount of people.. and it can be exactly the same for you.

Steps required to making this winning edge effective are listed above. All you have to do is set goals for yourself. With the combination of the right exercise.. food and music you can make yourself a lot more happy than you are now. Without goals.. you may attempt to have this winning edge.. but most people will fall short.. be too lazy to continue.. or forget about it completely. That is why you need goals. With goals you have motivation to not give up.. and to plow through the tough times. If you were to plan out how many times you're supposed to go for a exercise per week.. that is all fine and dandy.. I can assure you that you will loose motivation fast. I recommend you do your exercise with a friend.. so that you solely have motivation not to disappoint said friend. With out a goal.. you have next to no motivation. I can't stress this enough.

The effect is not limited to have an effect on you. It also effects your family.. your friends.. class mates.. it can even have an effect on your whole life. People do this thing I'd like to call "Absorbing emotions." When someone is around a sad person long enough.. they end up being sad as well. This happens with the flip side. Of course people's moods fluctuate.. but being a happy person in general will help people absorb your happiness. Being a happy person in general can.. and most likely will help you get far in life.
