The book "Quest For Fire" by R.N. Rosy is about three neanderthals searching the earth for fire.. for their clan. This is intriguing.. because in the modern day fire dosen't play such a large roll in our lives. We can go any day without seeing any fire whatsoever and not care. This is so different for them. This also shows the courage of the cavemen and the hardships they went through. In this particular chapter the three men.. Nam.. Gam.. and their leader Naoh seek a safe haven for the night. They stumble upon a cave and decide to rest there. During the night it all goes downhill for the men. The giant grey bear comes home to the cave.. which the men were in. I was stunned when I heard about the watch-out found the bear. I thought the men would surely die.
I think the purpose of this chapter is to display that modern society does not have to deal with wild life attacks.. or the struggle to live.
One of the interesting events was when the cave men collected rocks before they went to sleep. I was baffled by the intelligence of the cavemen.. who are stereotyped as being stupid. I thought that the men were extremely clever to collect rocks for defense. This also interested me because in the modern day men wouldn't have to deal with giant bears attacking them.. or wild life in general attacking.
A key moment was when Naoh beat the grey bear to death! I was very surprised! I thought the men were condemned to death!. I was amazed that Naoh would have the courage to do this. If any wan were to be in their situation in 2012.. I'm sure that they'd just say there prayers and hope to live. Also even if they did kill the bear.. they would be deemed monsters by society.. and could be jail time. The sheer fact that a small man could bludgeon a giant grey bear who could "Strangle a horse" simply bewildered me!
In conclusion I thought that this was a great chapter to a seemingly good book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes action or adventure books.
